Yesterday, I had planned to go to the Cubs game. The weather was beautiful, the pitching matchup was excellent, and I discovered I had a Capricon meeting. Oops.
So I swapped my plans around to go to the game tonight.
Are you surprised to hear that it's been raining all day? And that thunderstorms are predicted this evening?
As far as I know, they're still planning to try to play the game tonight. We'll see how this goes.

The first Capricon meeting of the year is tonight, so I'm heading home to grab dinner with daisy_knotwise, jeff_duntemann, Katie, and Julie beforehand. In work-related news, after beating my head against the wall for a while, I think I've finally figured out the correct way to handle the initial updating of the views in our application, which is made more complex by the fact that the views belong to a tab control that can't be initialized until the document is read into memory. We've kludged this in various ways in the past, but I think I may have found the right bit of magic to make it work in a more sane fashion. We'll see tomorrow when I actually test it. :)
After celebrating the beginning of Daylight Savings Time by getting up an hour early this morning (but it's ok, because the sun will go down an hour later this evening), we bundled up Katie, grabbed lunch, and headed off to the Capricon wrap up meeting. Things went well there and we had a chance to look at the new hotel which should be just fine. :)
After Bernie sent me the reminder e-mail, I still forgot to bring the slide projectors to the con. *sigh* daisy_knotwise has retrieved them now. Brain out to lunch, apparently.
Well, so far, so good. catalana's just started her set in the Internet Cafe following me and tollers in reverse order and we managed to get the sound system working despite some of my best efforts. :)
The other sound system, mic, cables, and the like are all now packed into my car and ready to follow daisy_knotwise and Katie to Capricon, right after I stop at the Jewel and pick up essential baby supplies. (No, not books. We already packed those.) Unfortunately, I appear to have tweaked a muscle in my back last night. What wonderful timing! *sigh*
In a few minutes, I'll load up the minivan full of sound system and cardboard for the fort building project and head off to the hotel to drop it off. That way, we'll have enough room for the two carloads of stuff that need to go over there tomorrow.
Got to go -- Katie wants to be picked up.
It's horrible when you get to the end of assembling this set and realize that you forgot to grab your CDs of Bill and Brenda. Ack! Forgive me guys... ( Playlist inside... )
daisy_knotwise has been pulling CDs for me to use on the two hour filk program on Radio Capricon this weekend where the theme is Pirates!. I'll be assembling the show tomorrow night. Any thoughts as to what I should put on the show?
Naturally, WindyCon having ended, we had a Capricon meeting tonight. A lot of good info was exchanged and things look to be going well.
On the filk front, it looks like we'll have concerts on Friday and Saturday night with Tom Smith, Wild Mercy, Bed and Breakfast (Bill & Brenda Sutton), and Michael Longcor, our special music guest. In addition, I expect to have a full slate of concerts on Friday and Saturday afternoons in the Internet Cafe, along with some Thursday night music there.
And, of course, the open filk.
Whee! | |
I've fixed up the forecast method work from yesterday and am going to quickly test it before I flee home on my way to tonight's Capricon meeting. In the meantime, I note that aaanda has acquired an LJ account. Maybe this will get Sam Winolj to change his name to Sam Wilj or something like that...
The Capricon Wrap Up meeting continues downstairs. Actually, the meeting has wrapped up, but the conversation continues.
Sam came by, examined the bed, and went out and bought two excellent clamps that are now holding the bed frame firmly attached to the headboard. Yay! I can sit up without sliding into a hole!
We're at the Capricon concom meeting tonight where Katie is being introduced to the committee. Much hilarity has ensued.
Sam and Bonnie came by in advance of the Capricon meeting tonight to record the giggle for catalana's album. (Bonnie can't giggle effectively without Sam.) We had dinner and daisy_knotwise and Bonnie then headed off to the meeting while Sam and I assembled the crib and changing table. Because the guest bedroom had the queen-size bed to use as a work surface, we assembled the furniture in there. We then discovered that the crib wouldn't fit out through the door. So we removed the door from that room, pulled the crib out, removed the door from the nursery, pushed the crib in, and then put both doors back on. It could have been worse. We could have assembled them in the basement. However, Gretchen says they look real nice.

Since I'm running filk for daisy_knotwise at the 2007 Capricon, it behooves me to go to the meetings with her. I actually caught the tail end of the meeting at our house when I got back from Indy after recording with min0taur and Sally, but this will be the first full meeting that I've been at. I've also been -- with very little armtwisting :) -- conscripted as the designated text masseuse for those who don't like their own text style for info for the website. This is because it would be good to have more info on the website. I have improved my standing slightly by sending in my blurb last night. This was, at least, before the meeting.
I had a fine time at Capricon this weekend. A bit chaotic, but fine. ( How I Spent My Weekend )And thanks to tigertoy and Helen for providing transportation for Erica to and from the con!
That was the question that so many at Capricon were asking on Thursday. The answer was "stuck in traffic picking up filkertom from Union Station". I got there within an hour after she left. I set up our sound system in the big programming room (with some help from Dave McCarty and Helen Montgomery who ran out to Radio Shack to grab a 25 foot headphone extension cable so I could get one of the speakers to the far side of the stage). I even got to plug my guitar directly into it and see how it sounded. (Pretty good, I'm happy to report.) Then I went up and continued setting up the table that daisy_knotwise had been working on before ducking out. Gretchen got back just before 9 PM. She did a bit more table-setting, then the two of us headed out for some dinner while Tom went to his room to crash. I'm home now. Gretchen's staying at the hotel, because she's on the committee, but I have to work tomorrow. Actually, so does she, because tomorrow's the last day before the conversion to the First Bank systems at work. I expect I'll get to the con long before she does. But we'll see.
I'm now in the process of converting the Formula One source code that we've got to compile under Unicode. Yesterday, I had over 500 compilation errors. Now I'm down to 174. Unfortunately, the remaining errors are starting to be larger and uglier to fix.
In other news, I'm off to Capricon shortly to set up the sound system for Opening Ceremonies.
