Sawing Wood

We woke up to a ruckus outside this morning. daisy_knotwise looked out the window and saw three Public Works trucks in the circle. It wasn't immediately clear what they were doing, but we soon found out.

Des Plaines has decided to thin out the ash tree population in the parkways to reduce the chance of losing all of the ash trees to the emerald ash borer. The two ash trees closest to us were both scheduled to be taken down. Now only stumps remain.

The tree was on the neighbor's side of the property line. Apparently, if he pays $50, they'll put in a new tree of a different species.

I hope he does.
