The problem was that she definitely did some damage to the shoulder. And it got better. And it got worse. And it got better. And then it got worse again.
After 18 months, I figured it was time to do something about it, so I called Dr. Bob and asked him to talk to Gretchen about this mess, suspecting that the next stop was with an orthopod. Instead, he's referred her to a physical therapist here in Des Plaines and Gretchen is now going in two mornings a week and doing her exercises to try to get things straightened out. Apparently, she was working so hard to protect the injured upper arm that she managed to tie her shoulder into a knot.
So far, so good. We'll see how things progress.
