The Triumph of the Weather Over Gross Stupidity
9th-Apr-2018 12:55 pm
I was looking at the pictures of Wrigley Field -- snow-covered Wrigley Field! -- this morning when they announced that Opening Day was going to be postponed until 2:20 PM so they could clear the field. I was watching the snowblower throw snow onto the really expensive box seats behind home plate, which seemed to me to be a classic example of kicking the can down the road. (When someone is paying hundreds of dollars for a seat which you have buried in snow for them, the snow starts to become your problem, not theirs, in my opinion.)

About 11 AM, they finally gave up, admitted the obvious, and have postponed the home opener until tomorrow, by which time this snow will have melted. I hope.

In the meantime, I have changed out of my wool socks so that I can use them tomorrow.

Because it is still going to be cold. Warmer, yes, but still cold. :)

Let’s try this again.
I’ve never seen a year where opening day gets pushed back because of crazy weather conditions.
Then again, anything is possible in Chicago.
“Snowopener” is what the headline on the Cubs’ facebook page read. Needless to say, they were attempting to prepare the field for an hour later start; however, the weather wasn’t allowing the grounds crew to have their way of preparing the field with their equipment.
Let’s go for another round.
Looking out my window, it’s beginning to cloud up; however, I haven’t heard of any rain or bad weather for today. It looks like we’re going to have a day of sun and clouds.
Game time is at 1:20 after an extension of pregame festivities. Needless to say, I think that the game is supposed to be broadcasted on ABC 7 like it should’ve been yesterday.
I’m sure this is going to go in history as the opening day that never happened when it was supposed to.
