Who'll Stop the Rain?

We went to Dave and Eliz's belated wedding celebration today down at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Through no one's fault, we got weather that properly had no business occurring on May 14th -- wind, rain, and cold. This literally put a bit of a damper on the event, but the food and company were wonderful and folks had a good time, despite being bundled up considerably.

Going to the zoo did mean that Katie and Julie had a chance to see some of the animals before the rain started in earnest. This included the Siberian tiger just inside the entrance, the wolves, and the otters, along with a lot of assorted ducks and flamingos. Later, during a retreat to the reptile house to warm up, they got to see turtles, snakes, lizards, crocodiles, bats, ants, and assorted small mammals who were sharing the reptile house.

Katie desperately wanted to ride the kiddy train at the zoo, but it had closed due to the inclement weather by the time we left. So we piled in the car and headed out to Yorktown Mall (stopping at Fry's on the way to not buy a sale item that was out of stock, they having started with three in the store apparently -- although they would happily sell me one of the four open box items. Thanks, no.) and let the girls ride the train there, play in the play area, and have popcorn and ice cream.

And then it was time to go home.

Where it is warm and dry. :)

(Which is more than I can say for Wrigley Field, where they played six innings of baseball before giving up tonight. Because otherwise, they'd have to refund those tickets to the 30,000 people who didn't show up in weather than was only fit for ducks. Actually, no. The ducks were staying home too...)
