Frozen Baby

Yesterday, it was beautiful out. Tomorrow, it's supposed to be beautiful out. Today, not so much.

Because daisy_knotwise and I missed our first Opening Day at Wrigley Field in many years, Mother Nature thoughtfully arranged that we catch that fine Opening Day weather today in mid-to-late May. Of course, this was not fit weather for a six month old baby to attend her first baseball game, as the temperature at game time was in the forties (and from the feel of it, the lower forties) with the wind blowing in a gale off the lake. But we had the tickets, so we figured we'd give it a try. Before the game started, I said if we made it through five innings, we'd be doing really well.

We left after the first inning, as Katie was shivering from the cold, despite being well wrapped in many layers of clothing and a blanket. Mind you, we weren't exactly warm either.

When we left, the Cubs were leading 1-0. I'm watching the top of the seventh now from my recliner at home (and Katie is much happier). The Cubs, on the other hand, are not so happy as they're now trailing 10-2, largely courtesy of a Zambrano meltdown and a Pierzynski grand slam given up by Neal Cotts.

Home is a good place to be.
