Crisis On Christmas Eve

One should not schedule a testing crisis (that is, our testers found a showstopper of an error in our upcoming software release) for Christmas Eve when the guy who runs the group and who actually wrote the bit of suspect code is on vacation in Hawaii. Of course, you don't actually get to schedule these things.

Fortunately, I understand enough about the problem that -- with the excellent set of data provided by our tester -- I'm pretty sure that the problem is in the installer, not in our code. At least, the fatal problem seems to be in the installer.

I have now written a hopefully persuasive e-mail to that point and am considering retiring from this particular argument until Dec. 26th. :)
