I started working on this at Marcon, where I came up with the chorus. Then I had a heck of a time coming up with a compatible tune for the verse that wasn't busy infringing on other things that I've written -- which I suppose is a hazard when you're writing in A with major 7th chords. :) And after two verses, I realized that I needed a bridge to get to the third verse, which meant I needed a third unique melody line. Ack!
So after last night's marathon coding session for work, I pulled out the guitar, found the tune, wrote the bridge, and realized that there wasn't going to be a third verse, because the song was done.
This was good, because daisy_knotwisereally wanted to go to sleep then. (We used to have spare rooms upstairs suitable for slinking off into with a guitar. Those rooms are now filled with little girls. :) ) Words and Music: Bill Roper Copyright 2009
Change Winds
(Chorus) Let’s dance by the light of a cinnabar moon. The change wind is blowing, arriving too soon, So move to the beat and remember the tune. It’s magic, you see, that shapes what will be And it’s magic that brings you to me.
Can you feel in the distance the chill in the air More cool than the wind that is blowing? It whispers and tickles and ruffles your hair And speaks of the things that are going. A change wind is blowing from out of the west And its magic might steal all the things I love best.
What was before is not what was to be When the change wind blows past where we’re living. And the truth from before’s not the truth that you see When the magic comes taking and giving. Future and past are like leaves on the breeze And I’m holding you close before memory flees.
(Bridge) When the change wind arrives Rearranging our lives And stealing the love that we knew, There’s still just a chance One last magical dance Might serve as a shield ‘gainst the wind coming through.
(Chorus twice)
And it’s magic that brings you to me. And it’s magic that brings you to me.
