Our Long National Nightmare Is Over

The National League All-Stars won tonight's game by the final score of 3-1 over the American League All-Stars, breaking the latter's long undefeated string. The previous time that the NL won? 1996. Eek!

And the defensive game-saving play in the ninth inning goes to the Cubs lone representative on the NL team, Marlon Byrd, who threw out David Ortiz on a force play at second to record the second out of the inning. In Ortiz's defense, he couldn't tell whether Byrd was going to be able to catch the ball, so he had to hold up until it hit -- and as slow as Ortiz is, Byrd was able to spin around and fire the ball into Furcal to record the out.

Whee.
