No Disassemble!
24th-Aug-2011 11:41 pm
I'm taking some more old furniture down to catalana and syalune on my way to Context, which will give them the use of it and get it out of our house. Unfortunately, at least one piece wouldn't go out the door without being partially disassembled, which is why it's been in the guest bedroom forever.

Tonight, daisy_knotwise and I took care of the partial disassembly, much to the consternation of Katie and Julie who seem convinced that everything that we have should be preserved for their future use, no matter how full the house might be or how far off that possible usage is.

Obviously, they haven't been listening when Gretchen and I sang this.

hmmm. My T does the same thing, wanting everything to stay the same...

*giggles madly and nods at the song*

I get to blame my grandfather, who lived through the Depression, for the terribly hard time I have triaging Stuff. I might use that someday! (Well, a few favorite clothes have come in handy; my kid has my favorite nightgown, and one of my old shirts.)

A happy ending! We managed to go through most of her kid-clothes that are in her room, and the ones that didn't fit, we assembled a small "keepsake" stack, and the rest... are at Good Will, YES! (I won't say how long those snow-boots, also at Good WIll, rode around in the back of my car, though...)

I remember my son going through that phase of wanting to keep everything for him, even though it would be at leas a dozen years before he could use it!

Is there a recording of the song somewhere I could get? I think I would like to take it or send it along to my professional organizers conference in November!

Sadly, we haven't managed to get it recorded yet, although if you bug Ken Lalonde, he may have a copy of it from the concert that I did at FKO when I was Filk Waif there. If so, let him know that I said I'd be happy to let you use it for the purpose. :)

(He, of course, has to do all the work of digging it out...)
