The shorts are now in the laundry, as I have doubts that I'll be needing them again for a while.
Then it was off to the park where Katie and Julie ran around, were suitably pushed on the swings by Daddy, played with other kids, and rode their bicycle and tricycle. This was followed by an excursion to Schaumburg. Gretchen dropped me off at the new hhgregg store so I could see what it was like while she went to the Schaumburg Michaels to pick up what she hadn't been able to find at our doomed store.
I determined that our HDTV upstairs could be replaced for not much more than the price of a burned out halogen lamp with a comparable but much more modern model should that happen. Ah, the steady march of technology...
(Gretchen reminds me that I am not allowed to replace that TV unless it fails. It's a member of the family. It has a name...)
I left with a new lightweight vacuum cleaner for use upstairs, which means that we don't have to haul the new behemoth up and down the stairs. This makes Gretchen very happy.
Then it was home, where I helped Katie paint her new treasure box (a cardboard hatbox thing from Michaels) while Gretchen made meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and sweet corn for dinner. Sweet corn is about to vanish for another year -- I'll miss it.
Gretchen and I spent time talking while little girls played in the other room. Then she picked up treats from Dairy Queen -- because it is the last day of summer by Midwestern convention -- we ate those, then headed upstairs.
Katie and Julie spent time playing "school" with me. Now Julie is bundled off to bed and Katie will follow shortly.
And all that was a good way to spend the day.
